I rescued Petey Pup, a street urchin, from abuse by a neighbor kid. I never intended to adopt him, just clean him up and find his family. Failing that, he needed a new home and my sister, Peggy, came to mind. My email dog updates to her became an entirely different exchange when Petey took over the keyboard. He shared his adventures and down-home dog wisdom with Aunt Peggy, who shared his email stories with her daughter, a neighbor, and residents in a retirement community where she worked. He charmed them all. Then, when I began collecting the emails for this book, Petey expanded his email repertoire by including his own vet, boarding, and grooming appointments. All were happy to respond to him. Join Petey and his comrades, Black Bart and Miss Ginga, and his cat nemesis, Bonzie, as Petey captures their triumphs, travails, and a few “uh-ohs” in his emails to Aunt Peggy.

Rescues come in various ways. Some from a shelter, abandoned and alone. Some from a friend who can no longer care for them. Some just show up as a scared stray in your front yard, running in fear from a neighbor's son who thinks it fun to terrorize small animals. Such was the case of Petey, a black and white Lhasa Apso. Author Pat Haddock has penned a charming tale told from Petey's perspective. Through emails "written" by Petey to his favorite Aunt Peggy and others, Ms. Haddock gives us a view of a dog's life. But this is not just any dog. This is Petey - hero, mischief-maker, protector and "brother" to two other dogs and a cat in a house that takes the ordinary and gives it a loveable and entertaining twist. You'll laugh, you'll cry, and you'll never forget Petey. This may be Ms. Haddock's first book, but with her quirky Texas twang and down home literary style, I look forward to reading more.

I'm one of Pat's "Red Hatter" friends, and I just read the book, all in one sitting. I'm not even much of a "dog or cat person", don't care much for animals, but her story ...... er, Petey's story ....... had me enthralled. Very entertaining.. Reading it, you could just see the animals as the almost-people they were. I highly recommend it.
There are rare occasions when a book comes out that is so sincerely innocent that its humor is a delightful and timeless treasure. 'Dear Aunt Peggy - Emails from Petey Pup' is such a gem.

I'm not much for dogs, but I LOVE this collection of emails from Petey. Written with gallant humor and a love for the comical behavior of dogs, Petey Pup stands head and tail above the pack. Pat seems to know and understand their motivation from foot pads to ear tips and is able to see the world from their perspective as if she'd lived it. It's hilarious!

If you love dogs, you'll love this read. If you love humor, you'll love it even more. Highly recommended.

Ivis Bo Davis
Author of the XTERRA Series
Ever wonder what a dog would sound like if he spoke English?
That he would have his own patois, that he would show himself
to be generous, curious, valiant and silly?
Pat Haddock has compiled all the emails Petey Pup sent to Haddock’s sister Peggy over a number of years. In these messages, he recounts how he booked his own vet and “groomerizer.” His attachment to his human family and aunt Peggy is all the more pronounced when Haddock’s computer goes on the fritz, postponing emails for a time.

Petey Pup comments on human life and activities from the point of view of one whose tummy is 4 inches from the ground—for instance, the new dogs that moved in next door, life in the back yard and garden and odors of many sorts and origins.

The love, humor and compassion that flow from Petey Pup are enough to keep you laughing or weeping.
Very enjoyable read. I know the author and she is a wonderful storyteller. I know anything she writes will be unable to be put down.
A great book for adults and children.
I HAVE BEEN A LIFE LONG DOG LOVER AND PAT HADDOCKS BOOK IS SURE TO BE A BEST SELLER AND WILL BECOME A REAL CLASSIC, EVERYONE WHO LOVES DOGS WILL LOVE THIS WONDERFUL BOOK. I CAN JUST SEE A SWEET LITTLE DOGGIE WRITTING EMAILS THE THE PUTER. OR COMPUTER.WHAT A DELIGHTFUL SURPRISE A REAL WONDERFUL BOOK. I JUST LOVED IT. I AM GOING TO BUY TWO MORE COPIES FOR GIFTS. ITS WONDERFUL.
In animal rescue circles, there's a beautiful but little spoken of phenomena called "foster fail". This is when, after all efforts to locate a lost pet's owners or to locate a suitable adopter, the foster family has fallen in love with the furbaby and the furbaby with them. Resistance? Forget it.

This is the basis for this dear book. Abandoned and actively being abused by a neighbor's child when she finds him, Pat takes Petey in. Though she and her husband Rusty were not looking for another family member, life and Petey's charms intervened. Told in first person,er,, canine, Petey tells an aunt and other friends via email about his adventures and new life with the Haddocks. Sweet, brave and sometimes too independent, Petey made me laugh and cry.

I loved this book and recommend it to anyone who's heart has ever been invaded by a furry little character!
